Excellent Original WW2 8th Army and (MID) Mentioned in Despatches Medal Group

Here on offer is a truly excellent example of a WW2 8th Army and MID Medal group.

The full size medal group consists of:

The 1939 – 1945 Star with ribbon
The Africa Star with 8th Army Bar with ribbon
The France and Germany Star with ribbon
Defence Medal and ribbon
War medal with MID Bronze Oak Leaf and ribbon

8th Army Bar
This was awarded for service with the 8th Army between 23rd October 1942, the date of the Battle of El Alamein and the 12th May, 1943. An Arabic numeral '8' is worn on the ribbon in undress to denote this bar. This award is controversial because Eighth Army was created in October 1941 and fought in Africa for a year before the award service requirement.

Mentioned in Dispatches (MID)

This relates to a member of the armed forces mentioned in dispatches is one whose name appears in an official report written by a superior officer and sent to the high command, in which his or her gallant or meritorious action in the face of the enemy is described.

After the First World War the emblem was changed to a single bronze oak leaf. Emblems granted for mentions during the Second World War were worn in the centre of the 1939–1945 War Medal. For those Mentioned in Despatches between the two world wars, or after the cessation of hostilities in the Second World War, the emblem was worn on the ribbon of an appropriate general service medal.

These medals have been professionally fitted to a long chrome medal bar and pin which is also fitted with clear plastic medal mounting pocket insert.

The pocket insert is stamped with the maker’s name:
