Early Silver Plated WW2 German Army Dagger with Tangerine Orange Grip by F.W. HOLLER
Here on offer is a beautiful example of an early silver plated WW2 German Army Dagger with a tangerine orange coloured grip by F.W. HOLLER.
The dagger is in excellent condition with a thick silver-plating finish to all the mounts and fittings, including the scabbard.
There is just some minimal spidering and loss of plating on the scabbard.
The 12 oak leaf pattern pommel is in excellent condition, showing quality hand finishing to the oak leaves. Just some minor usage scratch marks to the very top.
The grip is the beautiful tangerine orange solid trolon/celluloid type. It is in mint condition, no cracks or chips.
The spread winged army eagle crossguard retains all its crisp detailing and no loss of plating. The reverse is smooth and still has all it’s plating in place and just has some very light scratch marks.
The ferrule has the finely detailed oak leaf design, but doesn’t show the deep silver plated finish that the other fittings show.
The nickel-plated blade measures 10.2” (25.8cm) in length and is in excellent condition with a very light overall pinhead grey that I believe would polish off.
On the reverse it has a ‘crisp’ oval F.W. HOLLER makers trademark with the correct “thermometer” image in the centre.
The blade is complete with its brown leather buffer pad.
The silver-plated metal scabbard is dent free and again in excellent condition. It still retains most of the dark background finish to the raised stippling.
On the edges there are signs of some minor “spider web” pattern lifting to the plating.
The scabbard throat is held in place by one headless screw on the reverse.
The dagger in the scabbard measures a total of 15.75” (40cm) long and weighs 380g.
I do love these earlier period daggers that have the thick silver plated finish they just scream quality!
