Antique Edwardian Bakelite and Bamboo Cane Sword Stick with a long English Blade

Here on offer is a fine antique Edwardian Bakelite and bamboo cane sword stick with a long English made blade, circa 1910.

The rectangular sectioned English steel blade is 28” (71cm) long and 0.45” (11.5cm) wide at the base and still retains a very sharp tapered and flattened point.

One side of the blade is stamped:

MADE IN ENGLAND

The other side shows light grinding marks, where a maker’s name or owner’s name would have been?

This is an extremely well-made blade possibly made by MOLE? It could have also started life as a quality fencing sword?

This blade is rust free and just has some minimal greying on the blade but I think this would clean off and the blade would polish up bright, if so required.

The handle is made from a solid section of rounded and grooved Bakelite, which now has a lovely polished finish. This has been fitted securely to the blade with a stepped section of black Bakelite. There is just some slight chipping around the rim of the black Bakelite.

The blade fits snugly into the top of the bamboo scabbard, which is finished with a polished brass collar. It just holds in place, there isn’t a locking mechanism as such.

The bamboo cane itself is in excellent condition and has a beautiful dark brown coloured patina finish. There are a few minor hairline splits at the tip where it fits into the ferrule.

The tip has a large fitted aluminium ferrule that has a threaded hole in the base. I think this was so that a spike could be screwed in place for use on rough terrain.

It is just a fine quality Edwardian sword stick/cane that also acts perfectly as a walking stick.

With the blade inserted, it measures 35.25” (89.5cm) long and the bamboo cane is about 1” (2.5cm) diameter.

It weighs 420g.
