Rare Oak Framed “Citizens of Portsmouth” WW1 Certificate Presented by the Citizens to Mr H.C. Archer – 19th July 1919

Here on offer is a rare framed Citizens of Portsmouth, WW1 certificate presented by the citizens to Mr H.C. Archer, dated 19th July 1919.

To mark the final end of WW1, Saturday 19th July 1919 was designated a public holiday and Peace celebrations took place throughout the land.

I haven’t done any research on Mr H C Archer, but I assume he is from Portsmouth and probably served in the Royal Navy during WW1.

This beautiful coloured certificate has been protected over the years, having been framed in a glass fronted gilt and oak frame, that remains untouched.

It shows the crest for Portsmouth at the top and just below, the words:

PRESENTED
BY
THE CITIZENS OF PORTSMOUTH
TO
MR H C ARCHER

There is then a dedication as a token of appreciation and it is signed on behalf of the citizens by the mayor of Portsmouth, John Timpson.

These certificates are rare to find and this one is in great original condition, retaining all its original colour with just some dust under the glass.

The frame measures 14” (35.6cm) by 11” (28cm) and weighs 890g.
