Guildhall School of Music Hallmarked Silver Medallion to Ronald Holloway – Pianoforte - London 1931 with Box

Here on offer is a hallmarked silver and enamel medal awarded in London by the Guildhall School of Music to Ronald Holloway for pianoforte, in 1931.

This ornate shield shaped medal has been made from hallmarked sterling silver that is set with red enamel on the front and has the wording:

GUILDHALL
SCHOOL OF
MUSIC
PREPARATORY

On the reverse it is engraved with the winner’s details:

RONALD HOLLOWAY
PIANOFORTE
LONDON
DECEMBER 1931

There is also a clear set of English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver (925), an anchor for the assay office of Birmingham and the date letter “f” for the year 1930.

It also shows the makers mark, “A.C.Co” set in an indented oval, which I believe stands for the maker:

Alexander Clarke Co. Ltd

of London and Birmingham.

Attached to the top is a suspension loop and ring that is also stamped with the Lion Passant for English silver (925).

This medal is truly a top quality piece that is in excellent condition and it comes with its original card box, finished with a snake skin effect.

Inside the lid of the box is the maker’s name:

THE ALEXANDER CLARKE CO. LTD.
MEDALLISTS.
LONDON & BIRMINGHAM.

There is also a metal hook to hang the medal from inside the box. The box is now in worn condition around the edges.

The medal measures 1.9” (4.8cm) to top of ring by 1.2” (3cm) wide and weighs 15g.
