Good REPRODUCTION Scottish Highland Officer’s Basket Sword 1828 Pattern with Plated Scabbard c1980
Here on offer is actually a good quality example of a REPRODUCTION Scottish Highland Officer’s Basket Sword 1828 pattern with plated scabbard.
This reproduction 1828 pattern Highlander Officers sword was most likely made in India, but many years ago now, given the fading to the red basket liner. I have been told probably back in the 1980’s?
As reproductions go this example is actually well made, with some thick plating to the sword and scabbard. The quality of the engraving is well below that of the originals and the PROVED brass disc has the unknown T. mark below it.
The Sword is in very good condition with a polished scabbard, basket and pommel, that now has some very slight pitting to the finish. The grip is leather held in place with twisted wire and the tassel and red basket liner have now faded over the years. It makes a good display sword at a fraction of the cost of a real example.
It has probably been displayed in a sunny position, hence the colour fading, but this does make it look more authentic!
The etched plated steel blade measures 32” (81.3cm) long and the whole sword (blade in scabbard) measures 40” (101.6cm).
It weighs a heavy 1.86Kg.
