Antique Japanese Brass Embossed Vesta Case Depicting a Bird in a Grape Vine c1900

Here on offer is a fine quality, antique Japanese brass embossed vesta case depicting a bird in a grape vine on both sides, circa 1900.

On both sides of the vesta it depicts, in fine embossed detailing, the image of a small bird settling on a grapevine whilst looking down at a bee or wasp, that is flying towards a bunch of grapes.

Japanese art often depicts birds in vines, including cranes, robins, and other birds.

The lid of the vesta fits well and hinges open with a nice firm action, retaining its strong working spring that allows it to snap shut.

There is a raised ribbed oval match striker on the base.

There are no visible dents on the vesta and it now has a wonderful aged patina finish to the brass. There is just a tiny split to the join on the domed front edge of the lid, that is hard to see.
