Boer War Officers Interlocking Campaign Cutlery Set by W H WRAGG of Sheffield c1890

Here on offer is a really fine example of a Boer War period officers campaign interlocking cutlery set, circa 1890.

This is the finest matching “paired” set that I have ever owned, with beautiful grained rosewood handles.

My understanding is that W H WRAGG of Sheffield, England where well known for making top quality cutlery and offered this stlye with either rosewood or ebony handles.

These sets where a favourites of British officers of the time and appear in many original campaign kits.

The wooden handles of the knife and fork are each made of two sections of rosewood that are held together with pewter bands.

The handles have a full-length slot on one side so the two utensils can slot into each other’s handles for safe and compact storage.

The knife and fork themselves are made from polished Sheffield steel and have some slight age related pitting and greying to the metal.

The three fork prongs are sharply pointed and the rounded double-edged knife blade is in excellent condition.

One side of the blade has the makers details etched into it:

W H WRAGG
PATENTED

A rare set to find today, especially in such excellent condition.
The fork measures 3.25” (8.4cm) long and the knife blade is 3.4” (8.6cm) long.

Slotted together they measure 7.25” (18.4cm) long and weigh 74g.

Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
