Rare WW2 Salute The Soldier - Penzance - Fundraising Tin Button Badge
Here on offer is a scarce original WW2 period
'SALUTE THE SOLDIER’, celluloid tin button badge that relates to the Penzance fundraising campaign in Cornwall.
These badges where sold to raise funds during WW2 and would depict the names of the various towns that were involved.
It depicts the image of Tommy soldier in full army uniform with his machine gun, ready for action.
The image is surrounded by the words:
SALUTE THE SOLDIER
and the town of PENZANCE
It is in great condition with the original colouring and just has some minor staining.
It still retains its original pin fitting on the reverse that shows some light rust spots.
The SALUTE THE SOLDIER logo was designed by the artist Abram Games (1914 - 1996) the great designer of the Festival of Britain logo and numerous well known war and travel posters, etc.
It measures 1” (2.5cm) diameter and weighs 2.4g.
