Antique Edwardian Hallmarked Silver and Mother of pearl Baby Teether in the Form of Dog’s Head by Crisford & Norris

Here on offer is an antique Edwardian hallmarked silver and mother of pearl baby teether in the form of dog’s head by the highly valued silversmiths, Crisford & Norris and dated to 1906.

The beautifully detailed silver dog’s head looks like it might be of a spaniel and inserted in its neck is a fine piece of mother of pearl, that is the teething part of this teether.

On this example there is a small ring attached on the top of the dog’s head, that may have originally had a silver ball rattle attached or possible just a ribbon?

Around the dog’s collar it is stamped with a clear set of English silver hallmarks, the Lion Passant for English silver, an Anchor for the assay office of Birmingham and the date letter “g” for the year 1906.

It also shows the makers mark, that reads as “C & N”, set within a rectangle. This stands for the highly sought-after English silversmith, Crisford & Norris, of Vyse Street, Birmingham, where they operated their workshop from 1896 to 1976.

The teether is in excellent condition with no damage to the mother of pearl and the dog’s head retains all its fine detailing. A true collectors piece!

It measures 4.5” (11.5cm) long and weighs 47g.
