Unusual Post WW2 Fantasy “England Awake” Cast Metal Cap Badge

Here on offer is an interesting post WW2 fantasy cast metal cap badge.

It seems to be modelled on a WW2 German style badge, with a spread eagle on a Totenkopf skull, set inside an oakleaf wreath and bearing the words:

ENGLAND AWAKE

I can’t find any clear reference to the production of these badge, other than they appear to have been made by a British badge manufacturer, in the 1960’s, with the brass lugs on the back being typical of the British Army cap badges.

Some people seem to try and associate these badges to the British Union of Fascists (BUF), which was a British fascist political party formed in 1932 by Oswald Mosley. Mosley changed its name to the British Union of Fascists and National Socialists in 1936 and, in 1937, to the British Union. In 1939, following the start of the Second World War, the party was proscribed by the British government and in 1940 it was disbanded.

I personally can’t see this association and therefore am listing it as a 1960’s vintage fantasy badge.

It is actually a well-made badge that is in excellent condition and is possibly more “appropriate” with what is going on in Engkand now, than back in the 1960’s.

It measures 1.9” (4.7cm) by 2.4” (6.3cm) and weighs 10g.
