WW1 1919 Peace Medal Issued by the City of Birmingham with Original Ribbon
Here on offer is a WW1 1919 Peace Medal issued by the City of Birmingham with its original faded red, white and blue ribbon and large brass safety pin.
This Birmingham 1919 Peace Medal is a commemorative medal, struck at the Birmingham mint and issued by the City of Birmingham to celebrate the end of WW1.
On the obverse, it features an image of the City’s Coat of Arms with the inscription:
THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919
BIRMINGHAM PEACE CELEBRATION"
and figures representing industry and the arts, and the city's motto "FORWARD".
Then on the reverse there is the image of a winged Goddess of Victory holding an olive branch, symbolizing peace, with the inscription:
PAX VICTORIS (Peace through Victory).
Apparently, these medals were often distributed to children.
The medal is in excellent condition, still retaining its fine detailing and gilt finish.
It also comes with its original, red, white and blue silk ribbon, that is now very faded.
It measures 1.4” (3.5cm) diameter and weighs 19g.
