Mayer & Söhne Mod. ‘S’ 6mm Calibre ‘Perfecta’ Starting Pistol with Original Box and Instructions c1970

Here on offer is a Mayer & Söhne Mod. ‘S’ 6mm calibre ‘Perfecta’ starting pistol with its original cardboard box and instruction pamphlet, circa 1970.

The Perfecta pistol, with the various versions,
“S”, “G” and “G3”, is a weapon with a long and interesting tradition.

The beginnings lie in the old weapons town of Zella-Mehlis, where the company "Carl Walther" was founded.

In the 1930s, an employee laid the foundation for what would later become "UMAREX" with the development of the "Perfecta" gas alarm pistol.

In 1952, "Mayer & Riem KG" in Arnsberg resumed production of the "Perfecta," which had been temporarily suspended.

In 1972, "Mayer & Riem KG" and "Mayer & Ussfeller GmbH" merged to form "UMAREX Sportwaffen GmbH & Co. KG," which also includes the Reck company.

It has been mandatory in Germany since 1969 to have a weapon of this type marked with a ‘PTB’ reference which was a type approval, carried out by the "Physikali msch-Technische-Bundesanstalt," or "PTB" for short.

This example is stamped on the casing with the reference ‘PTB 7-69’ which relates to a Perfecta Mod. S and also means it was manufactured after 1969 and before 1972.

This Perfecta “S” (with PTB), automatic starting pistol, is in good overall used condition and seems to be fully functional, but is being sold as untested as I don’t have any 6mm (.22Cal) blank cartridges to test it with.

Its durable technology is as simple as it is functional, and the 8-round tubular magazine in the grip alone is a unique feature.

The pistol has a blued metal finish which shows some signs of light pitting especially around the top vent.

The dark brown chequered Bakelite/plastic grips. are in perfect condition.

It has a thumb slide manual safety button and is also designed to not dry fire with the tubular magazine inserted.

It has a “blind” barrel and a gas exit vent on the top of the barrel, long with an automatic cartridge ejection slot.

It also comes with its original cardboard box and blue maker’s label and the folding instruction pamphlet, which are rare to find these days.

Due to the Perfecta's varied manufacturing history and long production period, this signal pistol can be considered a milestone in the history of blank-firing weapons, considering its roots lie in the 1930s and in the famous weapons town of Zella-Mehlis.

The pistol measures 4.4” (11.2cm) long and weighs 238g.
