Six Large Antique Silver Plated Brass Livery Buttons Depicting Stag Antlers and a Tudor Rose by Firmin & Sons Ltd c1900
Here on offer is a great set of six large antique silver plated brass livery buttons depicting stag antlers and a Tudor rose by Firmin & Sons Ltd, circa 1900.
On the back they are stamped with the makers name and address:
FIRMIN & SONS LTD.
ST MARTINS LANE LONDON
Now the renowned English manufacturer Firmin & Sons moved from the Strand to 108 & 109 St Martins Lane, London in 1894 and operated from this address until 1915, therefore these buttons must date from between 1895 and 1915, so circa 1900.
Firmin & Sons Ltd have made military and livery buttons for hundreds of years and in fact have been royal button makers since George II.
I can imagine when these buttons where new, with their full silver plating, they would have adorned a wealthy gentleman’s hunting jacket.
They are still in great undamaged condition, but have now lost nearly all their silver plating on the front, but all the detailing of the antlers and rose remains, so they could be silver plated again and look like new.
Each button measures 1” (2.5cm) diameter and weighs 8g.
