Vintage Novelty Bowling Pin Petrol Lighter by KEM Company Detroit USA c1950
Here on offer is a vintage novelty Bowling Pin petrol lighter manufactured by the KEM Company, 1900 E. Jefferson Ave, Detroit, 7 Michigan, USA, circa 1950.
The lighter has been moulded using maple-coloured plastic, to produce an exact reproduction of a regulation Bowling Pin. This example has a plain finish, but I believe some were painted with red stripes.
Inside the body, it contains a precision-built KEM lighter mechanism, that pulls out to allow it to be refuelled and also to provide access to the flint.
However, to meet with shipping regulations there is NO lighter fuel (petrol) or flint in the lighter.
Stamped on the base is:
PAT PEND
KEM Co.
DETROIT MICH
I also managed to find an image of an old 1947 advertisement for KEM lighters, which is the last photo on my listing.
It is in overall good condition and makes a great conversation piece and an impressive addition to any lighter collection.
It measures 2.8” (7cm) high by 0.8” (2.1.cm) wide at its widest point and weighs 18g.
