WW2 British Brass Petrol Lighter by The Parr Mfg Co. c1940
Here on offer is a WW2 period British brass petrol lighter by ''The Parr Mfg Co.'' circa 1940.
A lot of these cylindrical style lighters are being offered as WW1 trench lighters?
There is a lack of true information about this company and the lighters date of production, but my opinion is the way it has been made with very thin brass, is aligned to a far later production date.
Now apparently, at the beginning of WW2 the British government mandated price controls and initiated a price ceiling for manufacturers to retail cigarette lighters at £1 or less. These became known as “Utility Lighters” or “UL”.
The base is impressed with “The Parr Mfg Co.” and the letters “UL”, relating to Utility Lighter.
The lighter itself is a brass cylinder construction and it has a vintage feel. It is in working order but is being sold without a flint or any fuel to comply with shipping regulations.
This example is in great condition and the brass now has a nice patina to the finish.
It measures 2” (5.3cm) long and 0.6” (1.6cm) thick and weighs 20g.
