Scarce 15” Miniature Partizan Polearm as Carried by Tower of London Beefeaters with Silver Spike and Butt by Wilkinson Sword – Mint in Box c1978
Here on offer is a stunning ‘mint in box’ miniature Partizan polearm as carried by the Tower of London Beefeaters, with a hallmarked silver spike and butt and a rosewood shaft, by Wilkinson Sword.
Established in 1772, Wilkinson Sword ceased the manufacture swords or miniatures in 2005.
The beautifully formed polished silver head of the pole is in the form of a spike. On one side it depicts the crest of Wilkinson Sword and on the other side there is a full and clear set of English hallmarks. These consist of the Lion passant that certifies sterling silver (925), the Leopard's head for the London Assay Office and the date letter “D” for the year 1978.
There is also a maker’s mark:
DSS set in a shield.
This relates to the London silversmith, David Shaw Silverware Ltd, of Clerkenwell Road, London EC1, which was dissolved in 1992.
The silver butt is also stamped with the Lion passant, confirming it is made from sterling silver.
The long wooden shaft is made from rosewood.
This example also retains the card of authenticity with a brief description of the Partizan on the reverse.
