WW1 British Army Officers Full Hunter Pocket Mk VI Compass Possibly by Terrasse W. Co.

Here on offer is an excellent condition WW1 British Army Officers, private purchase, full hunter pocket compass, possibly by Terrasse W. Co.

This example is a Mk VI version and would date to the latter period of WW1 and looks to have been made by Terrasse W. Co. as shown in examples on COMPASSIPEDIA, the online compass museum.

Terrasse W. Co. was together with Barker and Dennison an important British compass maker during WW I.

This compass would probably have been privately purchased by a British Officer during WW1, as it doesn’t have any military markings or even a maker’s name on it.

The polished full hunter nickel plated case is in excellent condition with just one tiny bruise on the back and some very light age usage wear to the finish.

The front cover is opened by depressing the button inside the suspension ring. It has a strong sprung hinge.

The glass crystal is in perfect condition and it has a black hair-line ”Arrow”, drawn across it. The glass protects the attractive jewelled bearing floating card dial, which has all the original dial markings in place.

It is graduated every five degrees instead of points of the compass and figured every 20 degrees. The North point is marked by a radium-painted luminous arrow, the E. S. and W. points by luminous letters and every intermediate 30 degrees by luminous dots.

The compass is in excellent condition and full working order.

It measures 1.8” (4.6cm) diameter excluding the stem and loop.

It weighs 46g.
