Double Bladed “Coin” Penknife by G. Ibberson Sheffield – Souvenir of the Coronation of King George VI – 12th May 1937

Here on offer is a double bladed “coin” penknife by G. Ibberson of Sheffield. It has been made as a souvenir of the coronation of King George VI on 12th May 1937.

The knife when closed just looks like a “Coin” as both blades are well concealed.

On one side it depicts the royal cypher for George VI with the words:

CORONATION

SOUVENIR

There is also an REGD. NO. 787232 for the year 1933/34.

On the other side it shows the crowned profiles of the King ad Queen along with the words:

GEORGE VI AND ELIZABETH

MAY 12th 1937

Both of the small stainless steel knives are razor sharp and still retain a strong spring action, when opened and closed.

One knife is stamped on one side with the maker’s name:

G. IBBERSON & Co and the “Violin” logo.

Then of the other side with:

FIRTH STAINLESS

FIRTH stainless steel was regarded as one of the best made at that time and G. Ibberson used it to make their knife blades.

The other blade is also stamped on one side with the maker’s name:

G. IBBERSON & Co and the “Violin” logo.

Then of the other side with:

MADE IN
SHEFFIELD
ENGLAND

The blades are still razor sharp and just show some light scratch marks.

This rare commemorative stainless steel “Coin” knife is in excellent condition and looks to have never been used.

Each blade measures 0.75” (1.8cm) long and when closed the “Coin” measures 1.25” (3.2cm) diameter.

It weighs 22g.
