WW1 1919 Victory & Peace Commemorative China Mug by Royal Doulton
Here on offer is a fine example of a WW1 1919 Victory & Peace commemorative china mug by Royal Doulton.
This rare Royal Doulton commemorative ceramic mug was produced in 1919 to mark the end of WW1.
It was issued to celebrate Peace Day on July 19th, 1919, a significant moment in British and world history.
The mug is made of cream-coloured glazed china with a detailed applied brown transfer print. One side shows Britannia in battle dress with sword and a shield with the phrase “Pro-Patria”, along with aircraft and battleships in the background.
The other side depicts a uniformed soldier with a rifle and an artillery cannon next to a shield that has the inscription “Victory and Peace 1919.”
Then around the rim is a ribbon border with the names of the allied nations that fought in WW1.
The base carries the famous Royal Doulton England mark and a registered design number Rd.No.666159 which dates the design to the year 1919.
The slightly tapering shaped mug is in excellent condition, no chips or cracks, just an overall age related crazing to the glaze finish.
It measures 3” (7.7cm) tall and is 3.5” (8.8cm) diameter at the base.
It weighs 216g.
