WW1 Royal Flying Corps (RFC) Silver-Plated Thimble Pattern Topped Bamboo Swagger Stick

Here on offer is a fine example of a WW1 Royal Flying Corps (RFC) silver-plated thimble pattern topped bamboo swagger stick.

The excellent silver-plated ‘thimble’ top has the crowned RFC pilots wings embossed into it and just a couple of minor indentations.

The long cane section is in excellent condition but now has a gentle curve to it, as shown in my photos.

It still retains a brass ferrule at the base of the cane.

The swagger stick was originally carried by non-commissioned ranks as part of their walking out (off-duty) uniform. Carrying the stick was designed to give an air of respectability and authority, hence use of the term ‘swagger’. The practice was discontinued in the RAF between the WW1 and WW2.
This swagger stick is in fine example and is now rare to find still complete, as many examples have a broken or damaged cane, even the example in the IWM is only a half section.

The swagger stick measures 28.2” (71.5cm) long and the cane section is about 0.4” (1.1cm) diameter.

It weighs 45g.
