Antique Cane and Lead Weighted Salmon/Trout Fish Priest c1880
Here on offer is a fine antique lacquered cane and lead weighted, salmon or trout anglers fish priest, circa 1880.
It has been made from a 50cm long section of mature cane, that has a lead weighted top, that has also been wrapped in thin lead wire and a small brass disc pommel secured to the top.
At the other end it has the remains of its original leather strap, still held in place with twine, but sadly the main loop is now missing. At a later point in time a hole has been drilled through the can, to enable a thin strap to be fitted.
The whole Priest was originally covered in a dark lacquer or varnish, most of which is still in place.
This rare handmade unique piece could still be used today, but makes a great addition to any antique fisherman’s collection.
It measures 19.7” (50cm) long and is about 0.8” (2cm) diameter.
It weighs 145g.
