Impressive Dagger with 9.75” Single Edged Spearpoint blade and Stag Antler Handle c1900.

Here on offer is an impressive dagger with 9.75” spearpoint blade and stag antler handle. There is no maker’s mark on the dagger and it is actually hard to date, but looking at the fittings and pommel, I would date it to around 1900 and possibly made in Germany?.

This is an interesting dagger with 9.75” long single edged spearpoint steel blade, with a 3” false edge. There is also a fuller groove on one side and the blade cutting edge is blunt, but can easily be sharpened and looks never to have been used.

The finger/crossguard has sweeping quillions and appears to be made from cast alloy that has a gilt finish. There are some nicks to the edge in a couple of places.

There is a ribbed brass collar between the handle and the crossguard.

The handle is made from one piece of stag antler that is pinned securely to the blade tang. It is finished at the top with a domed iron pommel pinned in place on the burr.

There is no sheath with this dagger.

The blade measures 9.75” (24.8cm) long and 0.9” (2.4cm) wide. The whole knife measures 16.5” (42cm) long and weighs 290g.
