Fine WW2 Auxiliary Fire Service Brass Pocket Petrol Lighter with Silver Plated AFS Buttons

Here on offer is a fine example of a WW2 Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) brass pocket petrol lighter with silver plated AFS buttons

The lighter’s inner frame is made from a section brass pipe, that is fitted with the flint/thumb wheel along with the wick, which remarkably, still retains its screw on cover and chain. At the bottom there are two screws, the smaller is used to gain access to the flint and flint spring and the larger screw is removed to refuel the lighter.

Then fitted on each side is a silver plated AFS button, making an eye-catching lighter.

No flint or fuel (petrol) is retained in the lighter, to meet with shipping regulations.

I have not tested the lighter, but it appears to be in working order as the flint wheel turns. There is some slight loss of plating to the buttons, but it is rare to find such fine examples still with the wick cover and chain.

It measures 1” (2.5cm) diameter excluding the flint wheel and is 0.9” (2.3cm) thick.

It weighs 17g.
