Scarce WW1 Trinidad and Tobago ‘WIN THE WAR’ Fund Raising Badge
Here on offer is a scarce WW1 Trinidad and Tobago ‘WIN THE WAR’ fund raising badge.
I can’t find another example of this badge but believe they were made to be sold to help raise funds in Trinidad and Tobago, to help support the war effort during WW1.
During WW1, Trinidad and Tobago contributed substantial financial aid to the British war effort through an Emergency War Tax and a "Patriotic fund" that raised over £10,000, in addition to a separate war charities fund by a ladies committee which raised £30,000. Overall, the colony gave a total of £480,000 in cash and also donated resources like cocoa and oil to the Royal Navy, highlighting its significant contribution to the Allied cause.
The pressed bronzed metal badge depicts a hand clutching a laurel wreath, with the words: WIN THE WAR in the centre and TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO at the top.
The original pin and ‘C’ clasp is still fitted on the reverse.
The badge is in excellent condition and now has a fine patina and appears to be a very rare WW1 related badge.
It measures 1.4” (3.6cm) wide by 1.45” (3.7cm) high and weighs 7g.
