Original Antique “THE METROPOLITAN” Whistle by J. Hudson & Co of 13. Barr St Birmingham c1902

Here on offer is an original antique “THE METROPOLITAN” whistle by J. Hudson & Co of 13. Barr Street Birmingham, circa 1902.

It still retains its original twisted silk cord lanyard.

The front of the whistle is stamped with the following details:

THE METROPOLITAN
PATENT
J. HUDSON & CO.
244. BARR ST
BIRMINGHAM

Now my understanding is that when J. HUDSON & Co. is stamped straight and the address is a standard block font, it dates this whistle to between 1902-05.

The metal shows some light tarnishing and the strap has some age wear, but no splits or repairs.

The whistle measures 3.4” (8.6cm) long to the top of the ring and 0.8” (2.1cm) diameter on the main body.

The silk lanyard is 14” (35.3cm) long, end to end.

It weighs 42g.
