Vintage SOLAR “Original Bowie Knife” with Black Leather Sheath

Here on offer is a vintage SOLAR “Original Bowie Knife” with black leather sheath.

A vintage Bowie type knife with white metal pommel, stacked leather grip, small brass guard, steel blade marked ‘Original Bowie Knife’ and ‘Sola’ on the ricasso. It comes in its original black leather sheath and in good order with some light rust pitting to the blade. It measures 11 inches long.

The pommel looks to be made from polished aluminium and is fitted invisibly to the knife tang that runs through the centre of the grip.

The grip is made up of tapering stacked leather pieces with coloured plastic spaces at either end.

The finger guard is made from polished brass and fits tightly to the beautiful polished clip point Bowie blade.

The 6” blade is deeply etched on one side with the words:

Original Bowie Knife

Then on one side of the ricasso it is stamped:

SOLAR

SOLAR appears to have had knives made in Japan and Germany, which they brand with their name.

The blade shows some areas of light pitting to the bright finish, that may polish out with a metal polish.

The knife fits snuggly into its original black leather sheath that has a slotted belt loop in the flap at the along with a retaining strap and stud.

The blade measures 6” (15.3cm) long and the knife itself 10.25” (26cm) long.

It weighs 170g.
