Damaged WW1 Leather and Silver ID Bracelet for Sidney Cadogan – Sapper with Royal Engineers - Service No. 267206

Here on offer is a WW1 ID bracelet for Sidney Cadogan, who was a sapper serving with the Royal Engineers.

According to the CWGC Commonwealth War Graves Commission, he survived WW1.

The bracelet is sadly damaged with part of the leather strap now missing. The half with the buckle is still present, along with the leather that runs behind the oval disc, but the brown leather is now very stiff and I would not try to bend it.

The main oval silver disc is engraved with his details, being:

CADOGAN. S
R.E.
267206

The leather that runs behind the disc is stamped with “VICTOR” 2 and a number 529336, which is probably the name for the strap and its reference number?

It does not seem to have any hallmarks but tests for 925 grade sterling silver.

It comes with a photocopy of his Medal Index record that shows he was awarded the Victory and British medals.
It also shows he held the rank of WR with a service no. 270892, where WR refers to the rank of a Wagoner, a soldier who drove horse-drawn wagons for supplies and transport.

The silver disc measures 2” (5.1cm) by 1.25” (3.2cm) and with the remaining strap, weighs 9.4g.
