Vintage Multi-Tool Knife by HAPO with Lanyard a Souvenir of Tirol Austria c1960

Here on offer is a vintage multi-tool knife by HAPO, a Souvenir of Tirol Austria, circa 1960.

This multi-function knife has a single edged blade, a bottle opener/screwdriver, a corkscrew and a hooked can opener.

The blade is stamped on one side of the ricasso with:

GARENTIE
STAHL

This translates to guaranteed steel.

On the other side it is stamped with:

HAPO
AUSTRIA

The grip is made from a moulded plastic, that imitates the look of stag horn, with the image of a stag’s head and an oak leaf on the front.

On the reverse it has the word TIROL in raised letters.

This would have been purchased by a tourist as a reminder of their visit to Tirol in Austria, back in the 1960’s.

The Austrian brand HAPO is renowned for its production of quality pocket knives and multi-purpose knives, especially valued by collectors and vintage tool enthusiasts. Founded in Austria, HAPO has stood out for its functional design and durability in each of its pieces.
HAPO was the brand of an Austrian joint venture formed by the two knife makers Otto Hack Gmbh and Josef Pollak who joined together and took this name with the first two letters of each of their surname’s HA (for Hack) and PO (for Pollak).

Each piece is made from high-quality materials, ensuring strength and longevity, emblematic characteristics of Austrian engineering.

Due to their production in past decades, HAPO knives and pocket knives are now considered collector's items.

This great example also retains an original twisted cord lanyard that is still attached to the knives bail.

The knife tools are all in great undamaged condition, but now show some areas of age staining to the steel.

The blade measures 2.5” (6.4cm) long and the knife when closed, measures 3.5” (9cm). The lanyard measures about 14.5”.

It weighs 77g.
