Rare 19th Century English Treen Boxwood Fisherman's Salmon Priest c1830
Here on offer is what I believe is a fine antique English treen boxwood fisherman's Priest, circa 1830.
This early 19th century example of a fisherman's priest, has been hand crafted from one piece of wood. It has a beautifully turned oval shaped end, inset with three grooved lines. The long shaft tappers slightly to a conical tip, that has a deep groove, presumably to allow a leather strap to be secured to it.
The now has a lovely colour, as often found in boxwood and an excellent patination.
This rare handmade unique piece could still be used today, but makes a great addition to any antique fisherman’s collection.
It measures 17.5” (44.5cm) long and 1.85” (4.7cm) diameter at its widest point.
It weighs 180g.
