Unusual Vintage Pocket Knife with Folding Ink Pen and Blade by Richards of Sheffield

Here on offer is a unusual vintage pocket knife with a folding ink pen and blade by Richards of Sheffield.

I have seen these knives before, but all of them were made by “Imperial” and I can’t find another in this style by Richards.

At one end of the knife, it has a mint 1.4” cutting edge clip point, stainless steel blade.

Stamped on the ricasso is the make’s details:

STAINLESS
RICHARDS
SHEFFIELD

Now it appears that Richards of Sheffield is of German origin. The company Richartz started around 1900 in Solingen. It was members of the Richartz family, Stephan and Wilhelm Mueller (1932) joined by Paul (1937), that started the company that became Richards in Sheffield. The name was changed just before the war from Richartz to Richards. They brought the lamp post trademark with them.

Then at the other end of the knife it has a folding ink pen. The pen seems to have run out of ink or it has gone hard, so it is not working at the moment. The body unscrews to allow access to the refill canister, which can be replaced or possibly refilled?

The grip scales have been made from engine turned stainless steel and are held in place by four steel pins.

The knife is in near mint condition and just needs a replacement ink refill to enable the pen to be used.

The blade cutting edge measures 1.4” (3.5cm) and when closed the knife grip measures 2.25” (5.8cm) long.

It weighs 23g.
