Mint Gentleman’s or Lobster knife by Aug. Muller Sohne Solingen made for the Mechanical Engineering Company, Th. Kieserling & Albrecht c1950
Here on offer is an ornate gentleman’s knife by Aug. Muller, Sohne, Solingen, Germany with its original pouch, circa 1950.
It appears this example was made to advertise the famous German mechanical engineering company, Th. Kieserling & Albrecht, possible a salesman’s gift to a new or valued customer.
Th. Kieserling & Albrecht was a mechanical engineering company the Bergisches Land city of Solingen. It was one of the most important industrial companies in Solingen and, with more than 1000 employees in the post WW2 period, one of the city's largest factories.
This style of gentleman’s (personal grooming) knife is also known as a lobster knife, albeit it is not used for eating lobster, but by its characterised by its traditional folding design, typically a small, multi-tool pocketknife.
This mint example features ornate decorative gilt “Toledo” damascene grip plates and the front one also has the Th. Kieserling & Albrecht company logo in the centre.
It has two stainless steel blades, the larger has a 2” (5.1cm) single cutting edge and it’s etched with the logo and name of:

Then stamped on one side of the ricasso is:

The smaller blade has a 1.3” (3.3cm) single cutting edge.
Then there is the double sided manicure nail file with a pointed tip for cleaning your nails.
The knife is in mint condition and looks to have never been used.
It comes with its original brown leatherette pouch.
This knife will make a wonderful addition to any penknife collection.
When closed, the knife measures 3.2” (8.2cm) and weighs 43.5g.
