Impressive WW1 Period Gilt Metal Framed Colour Print of the Picture Titled “The White Comrade” by George Hillyard Swinstead 1915

Here on offer is a really impressive WW1 period gilt metal framed colour print of the picture titled “The White Comrade” by George Hillyard Swinstead R.I. (1860-1926).

This detailed colour picture depicts two WW1 British soldiers, one badly wounded, being comforted on the battlefield by a vision of Christ.

Below the image is the title of the picture “The White Comrade” and what appears to be the title of a religious verse, “Lo, I am with you always”, by V.H.S. 1915.

At the top it has the printer’s details, “F. R. Britton & Co, 24-26, Basinghall St, E.C. London, England”.

The frame is made from a gilt metal, possibly brass and it has ornate corner fittings.

The glazed front is unusual, in that it is made from slightly “domed” glass.

The reverse has a brown printed leather paper backing card, with a wire wall hanging loop.

The whole picture is in excellent condition and is a very impressive memorial piece from the WW1 period.

The frame measures 10” (25.4cm) by 7.6” (19.3cm) and it weighs 450g.
