Fine 19th Century Burmese Dha Dagger Sword with Ornate Silver Covered Wooden Sheath

Here on offer is a fine example of a Burmese Dha dagger sword with an ornate silver covered wooden sheath, dating from the late 19th century, circa 1880.

It features a 9.25” plain single-edged steel blade, that tapers to a point. The very tip appears to be missing, but the blade is in excellent condition with just some light age staining.

The grip is made from a beautiful smooth long cylindrical section of solid bone, that is in excellent condition with just a couple of age related surface hairline cracks.

The ferrule is made of wood covered with a thin silver sheet, overlaid with decorative silver filigree bands.

The scabbard is made of wood also covered with sheets of silver and decorated with multiple silver filigree bands. Near the base it depicts an ornate filigree raised rosette surrounded by swirls. On the reverse it has a flat and planner rosette. The scabbard tappers outwards towards the base, where it has flared edges.

The scabbard shows light indentations mainly on the large plain section, along with some indentations to the bottom edge.

The blade measures 9.25” (23.5cm) long and the dagger sword measures 15.5” (25.2cm) end to end.

In the scabbard it measures 16.4” (41.5cm) long.

It weighs 305g.
