Vintage Plummet Major Throwing Knife by J. Nowill and Sons Sheffield with Leather Sheath

Here on offer is a fine example of a vintage Plummet Major throwing knife by J. Nowill and Sons of Sheffield, complete with its original leather sheath.

This throwing knife has been made using a full tang construction. The double-edged thick spear tip blade and is made of a high quality mirror polished stainless steel.

On one side it is lightly etched with:

Plummet Major
Throwing Knife

And the maker’s name:
Nowill
Sheffield

The plain grip scales are made from ebony hardwood and are held securely in place by two large stainless steel flat rivets.

John Nowill & Sons have been making high quality knives for over six generations. They are the parent company for three other old established Sheffield knife makers, F.E & J. R. Hopkinson, J. Adams Co. and Austin McGillivray & Company.

It comes with its original brown leather sheath that is in excellent condition but I think the small retaining strap is missing at the top. These are actually often removed to allow for fast access to the knife when it is used in the field.

The knife is in near mint condition making a fine collector’s example of this vintage throwing knife.
The blade section measures 4” (10.2cm) long and the whole knife is 7.4” (18.8cm) long.

It weighs 128g.
