Unique Early Custom Made Knife with 2 x Sheaths and Frog by Daniel M. Certo of Marshall, NC. USA. 2002
Here on offer is a unique and early custom made knife with 2 x sheaths and a frog, by the well-respected bladesmith Daniel M. Certo of Marshall, NC. USA.
I acquired this knife along with two neck knives (item 52219) directly from Dan Certo, of DMC Originals in Marshall, NC, USA, back in 2002 and they have been in my collection ever since.
It comes with some provenance, being a hand written and signed card by Dan Certo himself, explaining the details about the knifes construction and dated 2002. This card is also included with the sale of the knife.
His early knives are now highly collectable and command high prices, such as a 2002 plain bowie knife recently selling for $1200!
I believe Dan Certo of DCM originals, is now also the owner of RELENTLESS KNIVES in Marshall, North Carolina.
He is now known for his handmade tactical, survival & combat utility knives that are made to withstand extreme conditions and are proven in the field by experts from the elite branches of the military and by police units and are also great for camping, hiking, hunting and personal protection needs.
This knife is a very early Dan Certo knife that that is in mint condition, with just some age patina to the copper decoration. The design, balance and workmanship of this knife is extraordinary.
The knife has been 100% handmade by Dan and consists of 22 separate metal pieces, making it a heavy 470g, without the sheath!
It has a D-2HC grade stainless steel cylindrical handle with twisted copper and stainless steel decoration around the crossguard and pommel. The pommel is topped with a genuine dark red oval Carnelian gemstone fitted in a sterling silver setting.
The impressive double edged razor sharp spearpoint 6.5” blade is made from D-2 steel, which has 12% chromium, making it almost stainless.
It has a matching heavy stainless steel sheath with copper and stainless steel decoration. Then it also comes with a thick leather sheath and frog, also with a matching twisted copper and stainless steel retaining loop.
The knife, both sheaths and the frog are all hand engraved with the makers signature, Daniel M. Certo, location, Marshall, North Carolina (N.C.) USA and date, being 2001 or 2002.
This is a great opportunity to obtain a rare and unique knife that although not cheap, will only go up in value.
The blade measures 6.5” (16.5cm) with two 6” (15.2cm) cutting edges and is 1.5” (3.8cm) wide. The whole knife measures 10.75” (27.3cm) long.
The knife without a sheath weighs 470g and with both sheaths and the frog weighs a total of 950g.
