Near Mint WW2 German SA Dagger by MALSCH & AMBRONN STEINBACH Thuringia, with Original Short Hanger
Here on offer is a near mint, early WW2 German SA dagger by MALSCH & AMBRONN of Steinbach, Thuringia, Germany, with its original short hanger.
This is one of the best SA daggers I have ever owned and looks to have never been taken apart.
MALSCH & AMBRONN, were based in Steinbach, Thuringia and where a manufacturer of early SA (Sturmabteilung) service daggers during the Third Reich period. In 1935, it received the RZM code M7/87, assigned for the production of daggers for the NSDAP. The code was withdrawn on July 29, 1942. These daggers are considered rare examples due to the company's limited production, with estimates suggesting around 2,000 to 12,000 pieces were produced.
The crossguards and tang nut are of the solid nickel-silver type, with crisp edges and deep accent groves.
The reverse of the lower crossguard is stamped with the Gruppe Mark, “Sa” for Sachsen (Saxony). These symbols where used to designate the appropriate SA Group regional command, division command, or defence centre to which the original owner belonged.
The beautiful dark wooden grip is in near mint condition, with just a couple of very light dings on the reverse.
The SA runes disc is in mint condition with no damage to the original enamel.
The nickel grip eagle is a fine ‘crisp’ early solid nickel-silver version and has been inlaid perfectly into the grip.
The scabbard shell is in excellent condition, completely straight and has the early brown anodised finish. It has just a couple of small pitting marks to the finish.
The scabbard mounts are the bright nickel-silver type and are in mint condition. The top mount has the hanger loop and ring in place.
Attached to the ring is its original leather hanger and slider with nickel buckle and spring clip, that in mint condition which is hard to find these days.
The lower scabbard mount is also perfect with no dents to the ball end.
All four round headed scabbard screws are in place and look to have never been removed.
The blade is just perfect and has the deeply etched “Alles Fur Deutschland’ motto on the front.
On the reverse there is the clear logo of Malsch & Ambronn, that consists of a humanoid figure operating a water pump, surrounded by the text "MALSCH & AMBRONN, STEINBACH."
These daggers are coveted collectibles that embody the historical development of the Thuringian edged weapons industry.
The blade measures 8.6” (22cm) and the dagger itself 14.75” (37.5cm) long.
It weighs 495g.
