Antique Watchmaker’s Box Wood and Agate Stone Oil Pot
Here on offer is a 19th century box wood and agate watchmaker's oil pot.
Agate watch oil pots, often featuring polished carnelian or red agate reservoirs, are vintage or antique horological tools used by watchmakers to hold small amounts of lubricant.
These antique oil pots are still used today by a watchmaker in their watchmaking and repair business.
The wooden pot has been hand turned and is a beautiful piece of “treenware” in its own right. It is in excellent undamaged condition, just a slight rough finish to the lid.
The lid is marked on the top with the number “120” and inside it has the name: C. MURFIN, who might be the maker or possibly the original owner?
The polished agate stone oil well is centred and recessed into the wooden base and is in excellent condition.
This antique boxwood oil pot would be a great addition to a watchmaker business or your antique watchmaker tool & accessory collection.
It measures 0.7” (1.6cm) high and 1.5” (3.8cm) diameter at the base.
It weighs 20g.
