WW1 1919 Beatty & Haig Commemorative Peace Mug by Royal Winton Grimwades

Here on offer is a fine example of a WW1 1919 Beatty & Haig commemorative peace mug by Royal Winton Grimwades

This Grimwades commemorative china mug was produced in 1919 to mark the end of WW1.

It was issued to celebrate Peace Day on July 19th, 1919, a significant moment in British and world history.

The mug is made of cream-coloured glazed china with a detailed applied colour transfer print on the front.

It depicts Britannia in battle dress with a trident and a shield set between the images of Admiral Beatty and General Haig, surrounded by laurel wreaths.

Below are the words:

FOR FREEDOM AND HONOUR
PEACE 1919

The other side are the words:

A MOMENTO OF
THE
GREAT WAR
COMMENCED AUG 4TH 1914
ARMISTICE NOV 11TH 1918
PEACE SIGNED JUNE 28TH 1919

Around the rim it still retains most of the gold edging.

There is no makers mark on the base, just four red dots.

The mug is in excellent condition, no chips or cracks, just an overall age related crazing to the glaze finish.

It measures 2.9” (7.3cm) tall and is 2.9” (7.3cm) diameter at the base.

It weighs 158g.
