Large 50mm WW2 Period “The St John Ambulance Association” Solid Metal Sleeve Badge

Here on offer is a large 50mm, early WW2 Period “The St John Ambulance Association” solid metal sleeve badge.

I believe this is an early version of this type of badge, being made of a solid metal construction, possibly nickel silver, given the polished finish to the front.

It depicts the logo, being a raised eight pointed Maltase Cross, with the lions and unicorns, surrounded by the words:

THE St JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION

It also has an RD No. 111901, which dates the design to 1889.

On the back it retains its two original fixing lugs but is now missing the long cotter pin.

This example is in excellent condition, retaining its fine detailing on the front.

It measures 2” (5cm) diameter and weighs 25g.
