Vintage Seaman’s Knife by William Rodgers - I CUT MY WAY - Sheffield England
Here on offer is a fine example of a vintage or possibly antique Seaman’s knife, by William Rodgers, Sheffield, England.
The 5” single edged polished steel blade is in excellent condition, with just minor age staining marks.
On one side of the blade near the wooden grip, it is very lightly etched and now extremely hard to read, with:
I CUT MY WAY
WILLIAM RODGERS
SHEFFIELD
ENGLAND
as shown in my last photo.
The rectangular grip plates seem to be made from rosewood and are fixed to the blade tang by two large brass pins. One of the plates has been inset with a blank brass cartouche, that could be engraved with the owner’s name or initials.
The believe the knife would have originally come with a fitted leather sheath, but this is now missing.
Overall, the knife is in excellent condition and could still be used today.
The whole knife measures 9” (22.8cm) long, with a 5” (12.6cm) blade.
It weighs 82g.
