Vintage Swedish Folding Knife by EKA of Eskilstuna made for Volvo BM c1980
Here on offer is a vintage Swedish folding knife by EKA of Eskilstuna, made for Volvo BM c1980.
The knife has a 2.75” spear point folding steel blade. What is interesting about this blade is if you look closely, it has a very fine serrated cutting edge.
On the ricasso it is stamped:
EKA SWEDEN
In 1882, Hadar Hallström founded Hadar Hallström’s Knife Factory AB, which then became known as Eskilstuna Knife Factory Ltd, EKA and is known today as EKA1882 AB.
The grip scales are made from what appears to be oak or possibly a dark walnut and are held in place with four brass screws.
On one side it is embossed in gold lettering with:
VOLVO BM
The BM is short for "Bolinder-Munktell".
AB Bolinder-Munktell (BM) was a tractor and machines manufacturer founded in Eskilstuna, Sweden in 1932 through the merger of the mechanical companies "Bolinders" and "Munktells Mekaniska Verkstad".
In 1950 BM was bought by AB Volvo. In 1973 the company changed its name to Volvo BM AB and then in 1995 to Volvo Construction Equipment.
Therefore, this was most likely a promotional knife made somewhere between 1973 and 1995.
It was common back in the 80-90s for companies such as Volvo to have such knives made with their logo on them, to give away to customers and employees.
Overall, the knife in excellent condition and retains a strong spring locking and closing action.
The blade measures 2.75” (7cm) long and the whole knife when open measures 7” (17.8cm).
It weighs 80g.
