Impressive 11.5” WW2 Period Brass and Copper Trench Art Model of a British “T” Class Submarine

Here on offer is an impressive and heavy WW2 period handmade “Trench Art” model of a WW2 British Submarine, which I think from its shape is a “T” class submarine?

The British T-class (or Triton-class) was a highly successful class of diesel-electric patrol submarines built for the Royal Navy in the 1930s. Designed to replace older vessels, 53 boats served heavily in WW2, known for their formidable torpedo firepower, long endurance and ability to hunt enemy warships.

This type of WW2 “Trench Art” where normally made by Royal Navy engineering ratings in their spare time, from any materials that where not being used at the time.

The main body of the submarine has been made from a solid piece of brass that has been beautifully hand worked into the sleek lines of a WW2 submarine. The conning tower has been made from a solid piece of copper.

There are a couple of small holes on the top of the main body and conning tower, that may have held a model cannon or masts. Also, there are two loops at either end of the submarine that would allow a thread or thin string to be fitted across the top of the conning tower mast.

This model makes a great desk display item and can act as a paperweight as well.

It measures 11.5” (29.3cm) long and 2” (5cm) high, including the conning tower.

It weighs a heavy 660g.
