Impressive Swagger Stick or Short Sword Stick with Concealed Blade
Here on offer is an impressive swagger stick or short sword stick with a concealed blade, made with a heavy dark wood handle and sheath, possibly dark rosewood or even ebony?
This piece is is the correct length to be a swagger stick, but I feel is too heavy for that use. It is actually heavy enough and strong enough to be used as a truncheon, as well as a defensive sword.
I don’t know where this example was made, possibly India or Africa, but the construction is far better than I normally find with Indian or African produced pieces?
It has a surprisingly well made single edged 13.25” plain steel blade, that is in excellent condition.
It has just some very light scratch marks to the blades finish and some manufacturing black pitting on one side. It still holds a sharp full length cutting edge.
The handle has been carved from a solid piece of dark wood with a rounded pommel. There is also a small patch of lighter wood graining showing on one edge. It has two wooden pins that hold the blades tang securely in place.
The plain sheath is made of the same heavy dark wood. It looks like they have cut/split the length of wood into two pieces, then carved out the triangular channel in both haves to hold the blade. Then the sections have been stuck together and also held securely in place by a large brass ferrule and steel top collar.
The steel blade is 13.25” (33.6cm) long and with the blade inserted, it measures 19.5” (49.5cm) long and 1.6” (3.4cm) diameter at the top.
It weighs a heavy 350g.
