Bronze Award for the International Shooting Sport Federation World Championships held in Granada Spain on 19th July 1933
Here on offer is a very finely detailed bronze award for the International Shooting Sport Federation World Championships held in Granada Spain on 19th July 1933.
This beautifully cast bronze rectangular award/plaque depicts the relief image of a robed female allegorical figure holding a laurel wreath along with another female figure that is supporting a winged “angel” or possibly the Greek figure, Icarus?
In the left hand corner are the details:
GRANADA
1933
In the lower left corner, it also has the designer or makers initials, being A.M., which I believe is possible a French artist from that period.
Then below the figures, contained inside a laurel frame is the crest for Granada/Spain and the competition details:
IV MATCH
INTERNATIONAL
CARABINE 22 COUCHE
50ms 111 PRIX
This translates and relates to the 3rd place award for 50m Free Rifle (.22 calibre) 40 shots prone (laying down) competition.
I have found out that a British shooter named F.S. Morse, was placed 3rd in this event.
The award is in near mint condition with a aged patina to the finish.
It is a wonderful example for collectors of French medals, shooting memorabilia, or just fine bronze art medallions.
It measures about 2.4” (6cm) by 1.4” (3.5cm) and weighs 47g.
