Antique Pruning Knife with Stag Horn Grip Scales by R.H. or K.H. & Sons Ltd - Sheffield
Here on offer is an antique pruning knife with stag horn grip scales by R.H. or K.H & Sons Ltd, Sheffield, England.
The grip has two fine stag horn/antler scales that both in excellent condition and now have a wonderful aged patina. One side does have a surface crack running across it about 1” from the steel bolster but the scale integrity is still sound. They are held in place to the stell liners by 4 steel pins.
The traditional curved steel blade, has some scratches and minor signs of light pitting to both sides, but it still retains a smooth cutting edge.
On one side of the ricasso it is stamped with the makers details, but they are not easy to make out, but appear to be R.H. or R.M or K.H. or K.M. & SONS Ltd, but I can’t find a Sheffield maker with any of those initials? If anybody can help identify the maker, please can you let me know.
On the other side it is stamped:
SHEFFIELD
MADE
The blade still opens and closes very well locking securely in place. There is just the slightest, ‘side to side’ wobble when it is locked open.
It is hard to find an antique pruner with so much of its original blade still remaining. They normally get sharpened down to a thin blade.
This is a fine example that could even still be used today!
The blade measures 3” (7.6cm) long with a 2.75”” (7cm) cutting edge.
The knife is 7” (17.8cm) long when open and weighs 72g.
