WW2 German SA Dagger by Scarce Maker Carl Schmidt Sohn A-G Solingen with Original Hanger

Here on offer is a WW2 German SA Dagger by the scarce maker Carl Schmidt Sohn A-G of Solingen with Original Hanger

Carl Schmidt Sohn A-G, was based in Solingen, is considered a highly scarce maker of the WW2 German SA (Sturmabteilung) dagger. With an estimated production of roughly 1,000 pieces, these daggers are typically assigned a high rarity rating (often rated 9/10) among collectors.

The crossguards and tang nut are of the solid nickel-silver type, with crisp edges and deep accent groves.

The reverse of the lower crossguard is stamped with the Gruppe Mark, “Ns” for the Niedersachsen region. These symbols where used to designate the appropriate SA Group regional command, division command, or defence centre to which the original owner belonged.

The beautiful wooden grip is in great condition with just some usage dings and light bruises, and fits perfectly into the nickel guards.

The SA runes disc is in excellent condition with no damage to the original enamel, just some scuffing to the metal finish.

The nickel grip eagle is a fine ‘crisp’ early solid nickel-silver version and has been inlaid perfectly into the grip.

The scabbard shell is in excellent condition, completely straight with no dents and has the early brown smooth anodised finish. There is some very minor “spidering” to the finish in a few areas that is hard to see.

The scabbard mounts seem to be the bright nickel-silver type with the top mount is in near mint condition, retaining the hanger loop and ring. The lower mount shows signs of light pitting with an undamaged ball tip.

Attached to the ring is its original early-production leather hanger and slider with nickel buckle and spring clip. The leather shows some scuffing to the finish but the buckle and clip are in near mint condition.

The lower scabbard mount is also perfect with no dents to the ball end.

All four round headed scabbard screws are in place.

The blade is in great condition, with just the usual runner marks and patches of greying to the bright finish. The tip looks to have been “reshaped” slightly, which occurred often if the tip became damaged through misuse., opening tins etc.

On the front it is deeply etched with the motto, “Alles Fur Deutschland’ and it retains all the dark infill to the letters.

On the reverse there is the logo of Carl Schmidt Sohn A-G Solingen that is characterised by what appears to be a small chapel or church, trademark.

These early daggers are of the best quality and this example is extremely rare to find and would make a great addition to any German dagger collection.

The blade measures 8.5” (21.6cm) and the dagger itself 13.4” (34cm) long.

It weighs 495g.
