Unique Mint Zero Tolerance 0006 Fixed Blad Survival Knife S/no. 1542 with 6.5” Blade and Custom made Wooden Grip and Leather Sheath

Here on offer is a unique and mint example of a Zero Tolerance 0006 fixed blad survival knife, with a 6.5” blade and custom made wooden grip and handmade tooled leather sheath.

Now I am no expert regarding this type of knife but was told it is a genuine example of the famous USA made, ZT 006 survival knife, with a serial no. 1542. You can still by new examples today but they are over £300 and there are some good fakes out there as well, apparently.

However, the owner didn’t like the original G10 green grip or the black Kydex sheath, so decided to adapt it to a more traditional knife by fitting a wooden grip and making a leather sheath and he has done an excellent job!

My understanding is that it is easy to remove the original G10 grip scales and steel pommel, as they just unscrew. Then it reveals the skeleton tang frame (as I have seen on U-Tube) which makes it easy to fit a customized grip of your choice.

In this case he has used what looks to be an African rosewood with a beautiful pattern.

The steel crossguard has been replaced with a handmade polished brass version, then the two wooden grip scales have been fitted with an almost invisible join and are held in place with a large brass pin and brass lined lanyard cylinder at the top. The grip has been shaped to make a very comfortable fit when held.

This impressive knife has a 6.5” clip point premium CPM 3V tool steel blade, that is made by the particle metallurgy process and is designed to provide maximum resistance to. breakage and chipping in a highly wear-resistant tool steel. It has a very sharp cutting edge and a bead-blasted finish.

On one side it is etched with the company logo, “ZT” and on the other side the model, “0006”, makers details and “CPM 3V”.

Then on the ricasso it has the Serial No. 1542, and as they were just sequential, which implies this was an early produced blade.

It now comes with a fine handmade stitched leather sheath that is embossed on the front with a scallop shell pattern.

There is also a retaining strap with a press stud fastener and a belt loop.

It is extremely easy to handle and is now perfectly balanced knife. I have no reason to think this is a fake, but have priced it appropriately, even with the unique customised work, given the fact I can’t guarantee its authenticity. Either way this is a stunning knife that I personally believe has been enhanced by the beautiful wooden grip and tooled leather sheath.

The blade is 6.5” (16.5cm) long blade and the whole knife measures 11.3” (28.8cm) long.

With the sheath it weighs 245g.
