Fine WW2 German Navy Officers Kriegsmarine Dagger by Carl Eickhorn with Etched Blade c1941

Here on offer is an original WW2 German Kriegsmarine Officer’s dagger by Eickhorn with etched blade, circa 1941.

The ivory coloured grip is in excellent/undamaged condition and is the celluloid over wood version, which still retains its original twisted grip wire.

The finely detailed brass cross guard and eagle pommel, are in excellent condition, but have lost their gilt and now have a polished brass finish.

The double fullered blade is also in excellent condition. Both sides of the blade are beautifully etched with a central a fouled anchor design, surrounded by floral/oakleaf motifs, swirling waves, and sea serpents.

The blade edges do have a few shallow nicks where it may have been “played” (sword fighting) with as they sometimes were! I have tried to show them in my photos but they are very small.

It retains its pointed and sharp tip and the bright plated finish does show some light age darkening marks, mainly at the ricasso.

On one side of the ricasso it is etched with the ‘Over the Shoulder’ Squirrel 1941-2 maker’s mark for Carl Eickhorn and the words:

ORIGINAL
EICKHORN
SOLINGEN

It still retains its original leather scabbard buffer pad, which is now very thin and in a delicate condition.

The blade fits very snuggly into the scabbard and the domed release button works perfectly.

The lightning pattern scabbard is in excellent condition with just the slightest shallow mark on the front towards the tip. It still retains its two rounded scabbard screws. If I am being fussy, the top hanger suspension ring has a slightly marked finish and is not as smooth as the other ring.
This is actually a fine example of a true WW2 period dagger made by the prestigious maker, Carl Eickhorn and will make a great addition to any Kriegsmarine collection.

The blade measures 9.9” (25cm) and the dagger in the scabbard is 16.5” (42cm) long.

It weighs 385g.
