Unusual Vintage Hand Painted Jaguar Car or Panther Motorcycle Mascot Mounted on Wooden Plinth c1940

Here on offer is a really unusual and rare example of a vintage hand painted Jaguar car or Panther motorcycle mascot, that has been mounted on round wooden plinth, circa 1940.

I am really not sure what this mascot relates too. If it is a Jaguar car mascot then it is not an official version as they all seem to be in the “leaping” pose.

However, I understand manufacturers like Louis Lejeune Ltd have since 1910, made such customised car mascots, for hundreds of pounds!

It is also possible that it relates to the Panther motorcycle company, but that may just be a loose link?

The “big cat” figure is depicted astride a rock and seems to be made from spleter or a lead alloy. It appears to have been hand painted a long time ago, possibly when it was removed from the car, who knows? It now has some small patches of paint loss, mainly on the spine and ears.

I can only find one other example on the internet (they didn’t know what it was) that was chrome plated, which I can imagine this example was to start with?

It is mounted on a round dark wooden plinth, possibly oak with a grey felt covering on the bottom.

This old and original mascot makes a fantastic addition to any car collector’s collection.

Including the plinth, it measures 5” (12.7cm) tall and the big cat is 5.25” (13.4cm) wide. The plinth is 3.4” (9.4cm) diameter.

It weighs 360g.
